Okay so so far I have:
1)Draw BIG and then make your picture small. Still not sure how big is big. I hope my windows 8 agrees with it. It freezes up at werid times.
2)Draw in small lines and clean up later. Still not sure about the cleaning up required to vary line weight. It would help if I was better at seeing a fine difference in messy and clean lines. My eyes love messy XD
3) Line stabilization and line delay!  I have GIMP and PS CS5, and just downloaded that travel version of SAI. I am hunting for it in each program like buried treasure ATM.
4)My tablet (a Monoprice, very well made for the price) actually had no driver for itself on my computer, it seems to work without one. I downloaded it from the company website, but for some reason the lines do not react the same way as the pressure setting test in its driver (bold line varying down to pencil thin) even when I check the box that says for the tablet settings to override the pen settings in PS.
Edit: I am trying everything here: draw2much.deviantart.com/journ… We'll see. I might try using my older PC.

I know for Windows 7 it has its own drivers for tablets installed, so your tablet will work to an extent without its own drivers. I can only assume that Windows 8 also has tablet drivers preinstalled. If you downloaded the official drivers for the tablet, it is possible that the two drivers are interfering and the tablet does not know which drivers to use. If you didn't download the official drivers, that could be why it is not responding the way it should. (Sorry, the way you worded it confused me a bit)

And really, cleaning up is just a preference, Some people like the sketchy style of short lines ;)
